Grateful Garments Project makes VMC so…well, grateful

Just last week, Lifelines was thrilled to report on a remarkable woman, Lisa J. Blanchard, and the Grateful Garments Project. What started as a class assignment at Norte Dame de Namur University has blossomed into a resounding success. Lisa has been busy raising money to purchase clothing for women treated at the Sexual Response Assault Unit (SART) Clinic at VMC. Oftentimes, patients are asked to turn over clothing on-the-spot as evidence for law enforcement. With replacement clothing in short supply, Lisa stepped-up to make sure that every patient can leave in something comfortable and that fits.

Since we ran the first story last week, Lisa has raise over $1000.00. She presented the gifts to Linda Richards, R.N. and other SART staff on Friday. Lisa solicited money from friends and colleagues – and online using a Facebook Cause page. She was so successful, in fact, that she had funds to purchase a flat-screen TV for the SART waiting room, along with dozens of donated DVDs and VHS tapes to occupy the young children of patients.
Grateful, indeed.
